lost and found

Breathing new life into lost photographs

My Dear Edith

My Dear Edith

Postcard bought at an antiques fair near Stafford.

The message reads:

My Dear Edith, Robert & I (& Paddy & Pam) send you our very best wishes for Xmas & the New Year.

I’m unsure whether the printed message on the front of the card reads Hearty Greetings or something else.

Interesting that the term Xmas is used in the message, I thought this was a modern word but it seems it’s origins are much earlier and taken from the Greek letter Chi.

Merry Christmas to you and yours and thank you to everyone who has viewed or commented on my blog during 2012.

Dairy-Man

Dairy-man

Photograph measuring 3 3/4″ x 2.5″, this one was found at an antiques fair

in Kinver. I think the milk carriage reads G.H. Ferrige – Farm Dairy.

A little Detective work provided this obituary from 1904 which I’m pretty sure is the gentleman

in question’s, the name matches and Sutton is mentioned in the obituary and the front of the cart.

The house in the background seems rather grand, perhaps this was his property or maybe one of his customers?

The image didn’t scan very well but I thought it should be shared anyway.
