Dear Will and Siss
by Richovery
I can’t remember where I picked this postcard up but it seems to show a photograph/printer. The reverse reads:
Dear Will and Siss sorry I have not wrote, but I will write in a few days as I am busy with my photo work just now, this is one of them but it is too dark, I will send you a better on when I write you a letter from Nell and Fred
ps Just noticed that the reverse of the postcard has place one-cent stamp shown on the back so perhaps the Gentleman is American.
Very atmospheric setting.Seems as if this might be a self portrait. You certainly find some great photographs Richard.Look forward to many more in 2017! Happy New Year.
I thought it looked like a self portrait too, maybe in his garden? I’m pleased you like it Judith, Happy New Year to you too : )
I like his honesty about the photo being too dark. It is a reminder of how tricky early photography must have been – and time consuming! I was wondering what the exotic plant was in the background? I thought perhaps it was taken at a botanic garden, but might be outdoors if the card hales from a warm part of America. Happy New Year and good ‘postcard hunting’ Richard!
Thanks Sheila, Happy New Year to you too. He was honest sharing his imperfect photo, I think it looks good. The plant does look exotic, I will have to get my plant finder book out!
