Photography in Swimsuit
by Richovery
I’m unsure where I found this postcard, it has a reference just out of shot of the scan so was probably taken by a seaside photographer and sold to the sitter. No information on the reverse of this postcard. The man taking the photograph seems to be concentrating and seems unaware of having his own picture taken. It is one of only a few photographs in my collection featuring photographers being photographed.
Great photograph of concentration! I wonder what he was taking a photograph of? Obviously a “serious swimmer “,as he is wearing a swimming cap. Lovely record of times past.
I thought the same about him being a “serious swimmer”, he seems to have all the gear!
He’s very focussed on what he’s doing. I remember people wearing bathing caps – even men sometimes, but this was taken well before I was born. Possibly 1930s? The pier in the background fascinates me, too. One of the people who follows my blog collects photos of seaside photographers, I can give you a link to his blog if you like, maybe he’d know more about it?
He is concentrating, I would be interested in seeing the blog you mentioned Val, please can you send me a link… Thanks Richard
Looking through your other posts, it seems he’s already commenting in your blog occasionally, his name’s Simon Robinson. He’s a wealth of information about beach and promenade photographers and has a ‘walking photos’ blog. Not sure if he’s linking back to his blog though, so here it is: https://gohomeonapostcard.wordpress.com/
Thanks Val, I will check Simon’s blog out.
