This is a glimpse…
by Richovery
I found this postcard yesterday at an Antique Centre in Gloucestershire, England. The message on the back is beautiful handwritten and reads ‘This is a glimpse of our bathing. Yours Truly Stan’. The reason I selected this photograph from the hundreds I looked at was that there is so much going on, some of the people are out of focus, fooling around, smiling and having fun.
What a wonderful happy photograph.Proving that simple pleasures are always the best.Everyone looks so pleased to be together! I’m pleased I was with you when you found it.A lovely day out.
What a brilliant photo! I presume it was taken in the sea or were they splashing about in a large pool?
I’m not sure where the photograph was taken Val, so it could be either.
This is very typical of many bathing shots taken by commercial photographers. They would set the camera up, then sometimes use a whistle, and click the shutter when everyone turned to look! This way he could perhaps sell 70 or more copies to the crowd afterwards. You can see the print reference number in the print. It’s probably an open air bathing pool, maybe seawater, looks quite choppy water. Great example though.
Thanks Simon, clever of the photographer to make it a group shot and sell to the crowd.
Wonderful! Yes, so much happening. It is so “now” in the casualness of the group.
